Awakening

    by Br'er Dragonne

With grass licking at your heels,

You are awkward in your steps.

So fresh, so new to this world,

yet you were born fully grown.

    Of vast, urban savannas,

And forests of brick and mortar,

This den is wrong yet it is yours.

Are you at home, or are you not?

Why do you wander so far?

Neither herd nor pride could fill

    This hollowed space,—

    For you alone are enough.
