An Ode to the Sky

    by Br'er Dragonne

Last night, I dreamt of you.

    You, unraveling beautifully,

    around me, under me,

    above me, against me,

like a magnificent skin to be shed.

    With your pearlescent dawn spreading

into golden glows and evening hues,

And with drifting palaces crowning your sapphire brow,

Tranquil winds guide me along your kingdom’s expanse,

As if to welcome me home.

I change with you and your fleeting form—

from carnelian feathers to gilden scales,

and ancient talons to mythic maws,

I am made your shapeless, soaring muse,

Born to embellish this unending canvas.

Oh, forgive me, forgive me for my descent —

such a damnable state was not my intent.

Know that I long for you, as you long for me,

in the midst of flight, I find dearest ecstasy.

In the midst of flight, there lay my destiny.
